Wheat Bread

  • 4 cups of warm water
  • 4 tsp. “Real Salt”
  • 1/2 C of Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 C Honey
  • 8 to 11 C of wheat flour
  • 5 tsp of Instant Yeast

  1. Place 6 cups of freshly ground flour in the mixing bowl with the dough hook attached. Then add 4 cups of warm water. Mix on speed level 1 until you’ve got a paste consistency.

  2. Turn off the machine and add the yeast, salt, honey and oil.

  3. Turn machine back on to speed 1. Begin adding additional cups of flour one cup at a time.

  4. As the machine bears down, increase the speed to 2. Continue adding additional flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.  I usually use a total of 11 cups of flour.

  5. Let rise in bowl until doubled.

  6. Punch down, form loafs and let rise in loaf pans until double again (makes 4 loafs in 4x9 loaf pans).

  7. When finished rising, place them in a pre-heated 350°F oven. Bake for 30-40 minutes.

*We only let it rise once when making scones.

  1. So how should I mix it if I don't have a mixer? Can I use my hand mixer?
